5 causes for brittle hair

Brittle hair can happen to anyone at any time, regardless of race, age or gender. You can tell you have brittle hair if you notice:

Frayed and torn edges

Frequent and difficult confusions

Dry and dehydrated hair

Curls prone to frizz

Hair thinning

Perceptible loss of hair on the scalp

Intense hair breakage in the crown area

Let's see the most serious causes of hair fall or breakage, and how you can deal with them:

Chemical damage

Frequent chemical treatments can cause a lot of damage to your hair because they damage the cuticle of your hair and make it very difficult to repair. Also, the concentration of metallic elements inside the hair can cause hair breakage and negatively affect the color result in dyeing, balayage and lightening services. In these cases, the best way to restore your hair is to give it proper care and time to become healthy and strong again

Heat damage

Hair dryers, hair straighteners or curling tools over dry your hair and damage the hair. This also applies to sun damage. UV damage can be just as damaging as heat damage from a hair tool.

Let the hair dry naturally, in the air. Use heat protection products before using styling tools and apply hair sunscreen especially in the summer.

Tight hairstyles

Tight ponytails and buns that require wrapping and securing with a tight hair tie or clip are damaging to your hair.

Leave your hair free under or around your face or comb it loosely.

Dandruff

In most cases, dandruff does not directly cause hair loss. However, the itching it creates can lead to scratching, which can injure your hair follicles and lead to hair loss or breakage.

If you have dandruff, to avoid hair breakage, use a dandruff shampoo suitable for your hair type.

Health problems

Certain health conditions can cause hair breakage eg. those with hypothyroidism may experience dry or brittle hair or hair loss. Certain eating disorders cause hair loss and hair damage. Stress can also create brittle hair.

See your doctor to make sure you don't have an illness that's dehydrating your hair. Eat a diet rich in protein and omega-3 fatty acids and try to control your stress with enough sleep, meditation and exercise.
